I tried to find him on the Christian cross, but he was not there; I went to the Temple of the Hindus and to the old pagodas, but I could not find a trace of Him anywhere.

I searched on the mountains and in the valleys but neither in the heights nor in the depths was I able to find Him. I went to the Caaba in Mecca, but He was not there either.

I questioned the scholars and philosophers, but he was beyond their understanding.

I then looked into my heart and it was there where He dwelled that I saw him; He was nowhere else to be found.

~Jelaluddin Rumi

To those of us who call ourselves "Witch" or "Pagan" the word "He" could just as easily be replaced with "She" or "They." We Pagans generally sum up the above with the following:

If what you seek you find not within, you will never find it without.

There is plenty of information on this website about performing magick, but the real magick comes with the realization that the divine resides within each of us. Not just within you and me, but also within the people across the street and those we see every day at work. It is sometimes difficult to realize this because so many have chosen to ignore their divine nature and act in truly deplorable ways. The good news is that if we have chosen to ignore our own divine nature and seem to be drifting aimlessly through life we need only turn our attention within to establish a spiritual connection with the divine. It is through this connection and ensuing personal relationship with the divine that is the real magick. I had chosen to ignore my divine nature at one time, and I can speak from personal experience when I tell you that you can cast spell after spell and have a fleeting sense of satisfaction when you obtain the manifestation of the spell. However, if you wish to have a lasting satisfaction with anything in life, you can only obtain that by looking within.
